SMEs are not investing sufficiently in technology, according to new research. The BT Business Tech Mass Index Calculator found that 93 per cent of SMEs are under-investing in technology and omitting to mount inefficiency reviews that can help to reduce costs.
The report said that smaller businesses often find that regular examinations of technical infrastructure lose out to the need to maintain the day to day running of the business.
Rob Bamforth, analyst with Quocirca, told silicon.com: "SMEs might be missing out on things that could really make a difference."
He added that IT providers so far often focused their attention on larger companies.
Now they need to make their services more attractive to SMEs by appearing to help reduce the apparent complexity many of IT solutions.
