Google has announced plans to launch a search service specifically with small to medium sized businesses (SMEs) in mind. This modified 2.2 version of Google Mini, which contains Google OneBox Enterprise and secure search capabilities, is expected to prove a big hit with SME customers.
Google Mini was first released two years ago but it is hoped that this new offering, which can search up to 50,000 documents and costs from $1,995, will be better received.
Dave Girouard, the vice president and general manager of Google Enterprise, said: "As search becomes more critical to businesses of all sizes, we continue to add even more sophisticated search features that, until now, had only been available to large businesses."
The Google OneBox will allow users to securely search through calendar and contact information as well as items such as HR benefits.
It is hoped that systems administrators will be able to adapt the product's features to their particular needs, ensuring that the quality and quantity of information that is searchable constantly improves.
