Millions of SMEs need IT update

Large numbers of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are in need of a software update or a completely new system, according to a new report.A study by BizHelp24 has found that around two million SMEs are placing their business operations at risk due to running outdated software and computers.
Some one in four SME owners claim they do not need to update their systems or software at all, while 12 per cent only update them once every four years, which is a real worry, according to Colin Duguid, the managing director of BizHelp24.
"Whilst older computers may still do the job, they can be slow and unreliable; and are more likely to break down, disrupting your business," he explained.
"Updating or replacing your equipment every couple of years helps to ensure your staff can stay productive, and minimises the risk of you losing your data or needing to pay the cost of repairs."
The report also found that slow and unreliable computers are the biggest contributor to irritation in the office.
