SME employees are happiest

People who work for SMEs are happier than their peers employed with larger organisations.New research by HR consultancy Chiumento has explored people's attitudes to work and found that employees with smaller companies are most optimistic about returning to work on a Monday morning.
Those working for a company that employed 20 to 100 people were half as likely to experience 'Sunday evening blues' as those employed by a company with 500 to 1,000 staff.
Overall, nearly two-thirds of workers told Chiumento they felt positive on a Monday morning, contrasting to past surveys which have pointed to widespread career dissatisfaction.
However, SME employers were reminded that they should not be inattentive to employee morale.
"Although employees seem to be generally positive about Monday starts, employee engagement, or lack of it, is still an issue for many organisations," Chiumento chief executive Sarah Chiumento said.
She added: "Engaged employees will be more likely to embrace Mondays, therefore giving themselves a great head start mentally to tackle challenges and contribute more to the business as a whole."
A separate survey by Office Angels found that nearly three-quarters of employees claim to hate their job, with many citing good colleague relationships for their high morale.
