SMEs benefit in borough of Windsor

The Royal Borough of Windsor has been placed fourth in a league which ranks local authorities by their treatment of small businesses. The council was one of 52 local authorities in the region who responded to the survey by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). It was awarded the high position because of its focus on buying locally - 30 per cent of its yearly goods and services expenditure goes to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
In addition, the council has signed the government's Small Business Concordat - meaning cooperation with local SMEs is a priority wherever possible.
It is also leading the development of ePortal - the input of data which allows businesses easy access to information pertaining to forthcoming council contracts - for all 74 councils in the south-east.
Cllr David Eglise, said: "This fantastic achievement endorses the Royal Borough's recognition of the value of spending money locally. We currently spend over £40 million of our total expenditure with small companies in an attempt to bring about benefits and prosperity for the local business community and for the wider economic benefit of the people living in our borough."
He added: "Through a thorough spend analysis the council knows exactly where and with whom it spends its money and can accurately measure its success in increasing the proportion of local spend."
