A Cornish businessman has been selected by the British Council to be a representative for the UK digital media industry.

Stafford Sumner - along with two other "digital pioneers" - will travel to the former colony to learn about Asian commerce and how to develop business, thisiscornwall.co.uk reports.

The entrepreneur has been identified as a future leader in the international creative economy after the vision driving his email marketing company Jarrang impressed judges.

Mr Sumner said: "This is a really exciting achievement for us as a company and good recognition of our aims and objectives.

"The fact is it's great news for the South West. Over the last four years we have proved that we can compete nationally and on an equal level from our base in Cornwall. I now want to take this one step further and compete globally whilst maintaining our roots in the county.

"What this trip will offer me is a chance to explore new markets which is important to our long term objectives," he said.

Mr Sumner will also get the chance to participate in the digital entertainment leadership forum held at Cyberport, Hong Kong's revolutionary digital city.
