The benefits of e-commerce are being promoted to small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Wales via a new campaign launched this week, icWales reports.

Organised by Opportunity Wales - a European Union (EU) backed project offering advice and support to businesses in Wales - the campaign is aimed at businesses in the poorest regions of Wales through a new website.

Head of marketing at Opportunity Wales, John Jackson, commented: "Being able to see how other businesses from across Wales have effectively deployed e-commerce applications should act as a great source of inspiration for other Welsh business people.

"Importantly, the new site helps to convey the message that e-commerce doesn't just mean using email and having a website.

"Integrating a business's back-office systems with their website, being able to tender for contracts electronically, using the internet to make phone calls and having access to office files from any internet connection in the world are just some of the e-commerce applications which are helping Welsh businesses to grow."

Opportunity Wales has helped 11,400 businesses since its launch in 2001 via review, advice and support services.
