UK business is at the forefront of the world's £400 billion environmental goods and services market, according to new research.Trade and Investment minister Ian McCartney has unveiled a report entitled "The UK: a world leader in environmental solutions", which suggests the UK leads the way in pivotal areas such as finance, regulation and higher education.
Moreover, it found that a "wide range of advanced environmental technologies" have been developed by entrepreneurial businesses, which the report suggests are leading the way in the fight to halt climate change.
Mr McCartney said: "Today's report confirms that our political drive is matched by the determination of British business to lead the world in the technological response to climate change.
"We have a superb science, engineering and technology education and research base. We have an industrial legacy of skills and expertise.
"Our partnership with the Environmental Sector Adivsory Group can help encourage the development of technological solutions for environmental problems. This will not only be good for our planet but, with a $548 billion market up for grabs, it can be good for our economy."
The report, conducted by UK Trade & Investment, reveals 17,000 companies employing 400,000 people make up the UK's strong Environmental Goods and Services (EGS) sector.
