Over 40 businesses have signed a new manifesto aimed at reducing carbon emissions.Published today, the UK Manifesto on the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) is requesting further concord throughout the European Union (EU) of rules pertaining to carbon emissions.
Moreover, it is calling for long-standing clarification for business to ensure it can adequately assess the investment requirements of 'going green', Businesslinkforlondon reports.
According to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the manifesto sets out "how the UK wants the emissions trading scheme to develop after 2012".
Alistair Darling, Trade and Industry Secretary, commented: "British business is backing words with action on the environment.
"The EU ETS is a key part of reducing carbon emissions, but to be effective it needs to work across Europe with demanding targets.
"It is important for current and future energy investment, that industry has a clear long term policy framework for the EU ETS post-2012. We are determined to work hard with Europe to deliver the long term certainty they need."
