A retired Welsh entrepreneur has gone back into business with the imminent launch of a helicopter firm, icWales reports.

Severn Aviation has been set up by Peter Saunders after he became convinced that there was a market for the service among executives with time-constraints commuting between north and south Wales.

Mr Saunders previously owned healthy snack firm Halo Foods for 30 years until he sold the company in 2004 - when he planned to retire. He then embarked on his life-long ambition of learning to fly, which sparked his interest in helicopters.

He commented: "What will make Severn Aviation different from other companies is its ability to take to the skies in conditions that would ground others.

"We hope our Instrument Rating capabilities coupled with a serious commitment to providing personal attention and the highest levels of service to all our passengers will set us above the rest."

Mr Saunders' firm has already acquired three helicopters and some very experienced pilots including company director David Arkell, whose piloting skills can be seen in the James Bond films The World is Not Enough and Tomorrow Never Dies.

The businessman added: "I want to grow the helicopter fleet, I want to bring in more pilots and grow the business. I want it to be the best helicopter company in its field."
