IBM, one of the world's oldest IT companies, has launched a series of new products to allow small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to adopt and manage their IT infrastructure more efficiently.

SMEs will be able to purchase a complete, "all-in-one" system for their company to use on a per-user basis. IBM says that this will allow smaller businesses to grow their technology resources at their own pace and as expansion requires.

IBM revealed that many SMEs currently operate "in lean environments with little or no IT personnel and limited resources". Despite this, SMEs typically have seven servers operating in their business. This can lead to increased costs for SMEs.

"Every small and medium business has one thing in common - the need to serve their customers and be ready for growth," explained Mark Shearer of IBM.

"Today, IBM is providing these clients simplified access to a complete system that is easy-to-manage, easy-to-secure and highly reliable, with built-in virus resistance, database, storage and systems management technology."

Recent research suggested that SMEs could save money and the environment by installing thin clients in their business.

Thin clients operate from a central server and so use less processing power individually.
